Katie is an experienced Glasgow based counsellor working with adults in the community and with young people in Glasgow's schools. Her counselling approach is individually tailored to each person, taking into account your unique strengths and vulnerabilities, your life goals, and your preferred way of working.
Her starting point and core training is in person-centred counselling, a type of talking therapy which focuses on empowering people through understanding, acceptance and genuineness, and can be helpful for all kinds of distress. In her West End/City Centre practice, she draws on a wide range of professional and personal interests including various talking therapies, art and play therapy and breathing techniques.
As Katie explains "people are unique in their experiences, their responses to distress, and the things that are likely to help them to cope and move forward. Research evidence shows that although a large number of distinct approaches to counselling exist, differences between them in terms of their effectiveness are minimal. Naturally, different ways of working appeal to different people, and taking a pluralistic approach to counselling means that I can collaborate with you to discover what is most helpful for you. "
From her Glasgow clinic Katie aims to create a supportive relationship which helps you to understand yourself and the challenges you face, so that you can move towards greater wellbeing and a more fulfilling life. She can help with a wide range of issues including relationship and family problems, work stresses, loss and bereavement, trauma and abuse, addictions, gender and sexuality, low self-esteem, anxiety, depression, and severe and enduring mental health difficulties.
